Music Poster for Jan Britten Owen

I was asked by one of my friend Wendy to design a poster for her husband Jan Britten Owen, he is very talented musician, songwriter and performer with big admiration for the Beatles! He will be performing in St. Petersburg in Russia in a few weeks at famous Liverpool Bar and Experimental Sound Gallery-21.

St. Petersburg has a lot of history. When i grew up in Ukraine, during CCCP era, the city was called Leningrad. It was named after Vladimir Lenin, who in 1917 infamously took over the Winter Palace and out-ruled the imperial Russia killing Romanov's family and aristocrats. Thankfully today it's no longer called Leningrad, St. Petersburg was very prosperous modern city, when Peter the Great ( Pyotr Alexeyevich Romanov) ruled the Russian Empire in 17th century. He would bring the best french and european architects to construct palaces, churches and villas for the city.

Anyway, the poster is actually designed in Russian Constructivist style, I used strong russian-looking typeface, called Red October. On the bottom there is a shape of Avrora ship, the war ship that gave signal for the Revolution of 1917.

S.O.S. Haiti needs your help poster

I was touched by the recent news from Haiti, unexpected earthquake that devastated vast part of Haiti, especially it's capital Port-au-Prince. I have never been to this city, but I visited Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic on the other side of the island Hispaniola. This was in 2004, I befriended many people and artists, and heart about the Haiti, theirs struggle and political instability. Many Haitian would come for work to Dominican Republic.

With my friend Jonathan we went to Santiago, the city in the middle of DR, there we visited one of the old cigar factory. He said that majority of the workers were from Haiti. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world with unstable government and collapsing infrastructure. They completely are dependent on international rescue help.

Magical Flower

Magical Flower is a computer generated drawing from a sketch I created a while ago one beautiful morning. It's one of the most successful phenomenon on this blog that people like it! I had finally finished coloring in Illustrator and decided that it is a finished piece. I am completely happy with it, and I think it works as an imaginary creation on it's own without a background. I also think that it would be a gorgeous poster and I will keep you posted when there will be one available!

the making of at&t international roaming campaign

This is so cool! I just found out the story behind of one of the campaigns we created online advertising for! An amazing artist Guido Daniele transformes human hands into amazing creatures. The video is about the whole process of painting seamlessly on hands and creating unique images from far-off lands. One of the most creative and captivating campaign at&t has done in the past.

IN FLUX 1 (Rockaway)

IN FLUX 1 (Rockaway) from miron kiriliv on Vimeo.

In 2006-07 I have created a series of music videos called In Flux. They all relate to the idea of change and time, movement and passing by. This is the first one I shot at Rockaway Beach on a sunny day, it's about 50 miles driving on the bicycle. In Flux is a personal project where I blend motion everyday graphics into a new form of a music videos. Music is by Boards of Canada.

Bon Voyage

Bon Voyage from miron kiriliv on Vimeo.

"Bon Voyage" is a film directed by Miron Kiriliv. It was shoot in the wild Pacific Ocean on The Big Island in Hawaii in 2009. It took me the whole months of April to swim in the open ocean and when I got lucky the spinner dolphins would come. They are very friendly and playful animals, because of their curiosity, they got really close to me, allowing me to be very personal and somewhat unique points of view on their daily routines. I have used the Bossa Nova music, the only CD i was listening when I was on the island, and realized that it really works very well together.
